Mountains and Streams: The Endless Cycle of Life

Staying overnight at Fangguang Yunyue Mountain Resort in Nanyue, located at an altitude of 900 meters, I was surrounded by a crystal-clear moonlit night. The moonlight passed through thin clouds and gently illuminated the mountains. The entire valley was so peaceful that the only sounds were the flowing streams and birds singing among the trees.

I wondered what thoughts might have crossed the minds of ancient poets when they experienced such a scene.

Wang Wei once wrote, “The bright moon shines between pine trees, while clear springs flow over the stones.”

Bai Juyi described, “Above Tianping Mountain flows a white-cloud spring; the clouds drift freely, and the water flows calmly.”

Wei Yingwu expressed, “I cherish the quiet grass growing beside the stream, where orioles sing deep within the trees.”

Even AI composed the verse: “The murmuring stream flows into dreams, while gentle melodies linger in the heart.”

Ancient poets praised mountain streams with beautiful words. Yet I found myself wondering: Where do these streams come from? Where is their true source? Why do they continue flowing endlessly, season after season, moment after moment?

The next morning, I left the resort and followed the stream upstream, tracing its origin. My journey led me to Lotus Peak, one of the 72 peaks of Nanyue Mountain.

At an altitude of 900 meters, I reached the summit of Lotus Peak. There, water emerged from a spring at the mountain’s highest point. At first, it was only a small stream, but as it flowed downward, more water gathered, and the sound of the rushing stream grew louder.

At the summit of Lotus Peak, I witnessed one of nature’s most fascinating wonders. There was no snow on the mountain and no rain falling from the sky, yet inside the rounded peak, it seemed as if a hidden sprinkler had been installed, continuously releasing water downward.

Closing my eyes, I imagined the spring water emerging from the very top of the mountain and rushing downward, as if a river were descending from the heavens.

Such a mysterious phenomenon can only be explained through science.

During the day, sunlight provides energy that causes water from rivers, lakes, and oceans to evaporate into vapor. The vapor rises into the sky and forms clouds. At night, as temperatures drop, the water vapor inside clouds condenses into dew and frost. These droplets seep into the ground, gather deep underground, and eventually form springs that find their way through openings on the mountainside, flowing gently outward.

During the day, the sun’s energy lifts water vapor into the sky. At night, the vapor condenses within the mountains and transforms into streams flowing downward. Countless streams gather among the mountains, surging like thousands of horses running together, eventually forming mighty rivers below.

Driven by the rotation of the Earth and the energy of the sun, water follows an endless cycle: rising without hesitation and falling endlessly, sustaining life through perpetual movement.

This cycle, this persistence, continues day after day, repeating endlessly.

It is through billions of years of countless cycles of water movement and endless circulation that life was eventually born.

Therefore, the essence of life lies in cycles — in every drop of water rising and falling, and in generations of living beings being born and passing away.

The Earth is like a perpetual motion machine, rotating day after day for 4 billion years. The sun acts as a constant source of energy, continuously providing the power that drives the rise and fall, gathering and separation of water on Earth.

在永动机和恒热源的共同作用下,在水的聚散起落中,在某一个时刻,生命诞生了。

Through the combined influence of this “perpetual motion machine” and the constant energy source, within the endless cycles of water gathering and dispersing, rising and falling, life eventually emerged at a certain moment in time.

地球的旋转创生了白天和黑夜,水分子周期性奔波于升华和沉降,这两种运动共同谱写了DNA螺旋式的周期架构,太阳的能量则赋予了DNA自我复制的冲动和能量,让生命延续。

The rotation of the Earth creates the rhythm of day and night. Water molecules continuously move through cycles of evaporation and condensation. Together, these movements helped shape the spiral patterns of DNA, while the energy of the sun provides the driving force for DNA replication, allowing life to continue and evolve.

The ups and downs of life are part of our destiny. Just as the Earth rotates, the sun rises and sets, mountains have peaks and valleys, and winter brings snow, the world itself is defined by change. These natural rhythms determine that every life journey will contain challenges, hardships, and moments of brilliance.

If humanity can wisely harness the Earth’s endless cycles and the sun’s constant energy, draw inspiration from the movement of water, follow the rhythms of day and night and the changing seasons, and dedicate decades to pursuing one meaningful mission, we can overcome limitations, discover our own path, transcend the ordinary, and achieve remarkable success.

Mountains stand high and streams flow endlessly, day and night; life is created and continues forever.

“The bright moon shines between pine trees, while clear springs flow over the stones.”

These two simple lines reveal the profound truth of life.

“Above Tianping Mountain flows a white-cloud spring; the clouds drift freely, and the water flows peacefully.”

In such effortless moments of nature, the miracle of life quietly comes into being.
